White Gold was a project produced by Iron Oxide as part of the Cultural Commonwealth Programme of the Commonwealth Games.  It was based in Greenock at the old Tate and Lyle Sugar Sheds, which stand proudly at the mouth of the Clyde.

Having been saved from commercial developers, the Sugar Sheds have an extremely strong community involvement and sense of ownership.  Through concerted efforts, they have been kept as a space for creativity for the immediate locale and beyond.

Created by Mark Murphy with direction by Simone Jenkinson and Joseph Traynor of Cuerda Producciones.

Land of Giants, presented by Giant Events Company for the Cultural Olympic Programme 2012

Part of creative team & Performer

A vast show set on the Titanic slipway in Belfast.  Written, designed and directed by Mark Murphy, this ambitious project successfully celebrated the industrial, cultural and literary giants of Northern Ireland.  With poetry & prose by Sinead Morrissey and music by Nathaniel Reed, the 500-strong cast of local performers & musicians outdid themselves in front of 20,000.  A true night to remember!

Antics Community Dance

1988-1989

Dance-in-education company based in Fife.  Toured schools teaching and performing.

I began performing as part of the Community Dance Boom in Scotland in the 1980s and went on to train at London Contemporary Dance School.  Following a return to Scotland, I worked as an independent dancer, working with a wide variety of choreographers including Gill Clarke, Mark Murphy, Jonathan Burrows, Jamie Watton & Fiona Edwards.

Throughout the 1990s I was a regular performer with X-Factor Dance Company (now Alan Greig Dance Theatre) and with Group n, directed by Vanessa Smith.  I set up Incognita with Dawn Hartley in the mid 1990s in response to our mutual interest in site specific work.

Following a break in which I concentrated more on teaching, I have returned to performing and am delighted to discover that it is still enormous fun....
